It is named after the district of Metro Manila,where the original factory was located until 1881, when several small manufacturers where grouped into the Tabacalera - La Flor de la Isabela Inc. companies. On 1st May 1898 Commodore Dewey, during the Spanish-American war, beat a Spanish Armada in the bay of Manila. As a result of this war, both Cuba and the Philippines have been freed from Colonialization by the Spaniards and henceforth were under the influence of the USA. A Swiss National, Mr. Harry Streiff, used the opportunity to found the ALHAMBRA CIGARS INC. that started to compete with the former Tabacalera Company who had practically a monopoly in producing and exporting cigars from the Philippines. That was in the same year: 1898. The ALHAMBRA Cigars became the favorite smoke of popular US President John F. Kennedy and his brother, Robert Kennedy. Later on also Richard Nixon was favoring these fine cigars. We also offer the large size Presidente cigar in our range.
